VIRGINIA
Looks like it's time for Shana to take a break.
Trust me, it's reluctantly that I admit this.
But things are getting back to "normal." People are coming out of COVID hibernation and salespeople are visiting clients again, which means I need to visit clients again as well, which means I need to be in the DC and St. Louis areas.
Couple that with the fact that everyone is making up for lost vacation time. They are coming out in hordes and they are staying in MY airbnb's and hiking on MY trails!
As a result, it has become increasingly difficult to find a place to stay. The few Airbnb's that are still available cost $600+ a night. Most hotels are full and the ones that still have rooms are crummy AND cost a fortune. Case in point: Motel 6 in Jackson, WY is $242 a night right now.
No, thank you.
So, I am heading back to Virginia. I am fortunate that my parents have a second home near Charlottesville and they've graciously offered it to me as a stopgap. So I will stay there until I figure out what to do next.
For sure, I need a place of my own, so I'll start house shopping once I get back to Virginia. Why not buy a house at the top of the market?!
And just in case it works out for me to resume my nomadic life later this fall, I'm leaving my SUV with my parents in South Dakota. Fingers crossed things will slow down once families start hunkering down for the new school year. I still want to do Montana and Wyoming - they've been on my list for years, so I might as well knock them out while I still have my SUV and no mortgage payment!
For now, time to take a break. TBD on what happens next, but I'll keep you in the loop on how things turn out. In the meantime, thanks for following me along this journey. I've loved having your company. ❤️
Later, gator.
