PAGE, AZ
Today is my last day in Page, AZ.
It's a nice little town in northern Arizona, just south of the Utah border, perched at an elevation of 4,300 feet, with a population of just 7,500. It is built near Lake Powell and nearly every house has either a huge RV or a boat or both parked in their driveway, or at one of the many boat storage facilities in the area.
The town was founded just 60 years ago as a housing community for workers and their families during the construction of the nearby Glen Canyon Dam on the Colorado River.
There are lots of outdoor activities in the area that are contributing to an increased interest in the area, slowing increasing tourism including Antelope Canyon (which is unfortunately closed right now due to COVID), The Wave (which you need to win a lottery to see), Lake Powell, and Horseshoe Bend.
Here are the things I did in Page:
Hiking
Cathedral Wash Trail in Marble Canyon
Wire Pass Trail to Buckskin Gulch - next best thing to The Wave
Eating
El Tapatio - Mexican food
Big John's Texas BBQ - I've had the real thing, and this is as close as you can get to real Texas BBQ outside of Texas.
Eat In - it was so nice having a real kitchen and a GRILL! Grilled up some burgers, chicken for salads, and also grilled up some chicken to take to Springdale with me.
Sleeping
I stayed in the Powell Lakeview House I found on VRBO. It was perfect! Very clean, a washer and dryer (yay!), a grill, and an awesome outdoor patio space where I spent a lot of evenings wrapping up work.
My office for the week was at that dining room table:
A nice updated kitchen:
Lovely outdoor area with a nice grill:
Cute little house in a residential neighborhood near an elementary school.
People I Saw
No one, but calls and texts and emails from peeps I haven't talked to in a while. So nice to hear from everyone! Oh, and Chirag is going to meet up with me in Zion!
Things On My List I Didn't Do
Antelope Canyon - closed due to COVID
The Wave - didn't win the lottery
Lake Powell Water Activities - would have been more fun to do with friends
Monument Valley - the reservation is closed due to COVID
It's been real, Page!
Next Stop: Springdale, UT. See you there!
