Sell my house. Put everything in storage. Head west for a new adventure.
Your first question is likely: where are you going to live?
Well, that was the first thing my 7-yr-old nephew asked when I told him the news.
I said, "Well, I'm contemplating homeless." Then I realized he probably doesn't know what "contemplating" means, so I asked, "Do you know what that means?
He paused, sucking air in through his teeth and, shaking his head, said, "Mmmm, no money."
So, yes. That is the plan - to be homeless. Hopefully with SOME money. :)
How did I arrive at this decision?
Well, I've been working from home without seeing clients or colleagues for nearly a year now, and it looks like that trend will continue for several more months. Plus, the housing market in the DC area is smoking hot.
So why not take advantage of these two opportunities? I can sell my house, work remotely, head out west, and hike on the weekends.
First step: put my house on the market, just to see if I can get an offer at my break-even price.
I did.
Just to give you an idea of how crazy the market is here, I had 103 showings in 4 days, resulting in 24 offers. Crazy!
And because not having a house is the first step in becoming homeless, I am now officially on my way to becoming a modern day vagabond. Now the planning ... where am I going to live? How will I get there? What will I do with my stuff? What all do I want to see and do?
Being homeless is very complicated! :)
