SALT LAKE CITY, UT
Antelope Island State Park is located near Salt Lake City, in Salt Lake. It is home to free-range bison and antelope, and supposedly also to bighorn sheep and mule deer, although we didn't see any of the latter.
Karen was supposed to fly home on Tuesday evening, but her flight was cancelled, so we decided to visit Antelope Island based on recommendations from someone she talked to in Moab and separately, someone I had talked to in Salt Lake City. Plus, it offers easy hikes for Karen's knee which she has yet to let rest.
We drove out to the park and did the Buffalo Point Trail, a short climb up a hill for a great view, plus Lake Side Trail Loop, a flat easy hike around part of the lake. It was the first hike I did with Karen this weekend that didn't involve snow, haha!
We kept our eyes peeled for buffalo the entire time and were so excited to finally see one in the distance. We took a million pics, but of course, it just looked like a black speck in the photo.
Then we drove down the east side of the island and holy smokes, there were TONS of buffalo!
We laughed at how excited we were early about the random lone buffalo when clearly that was nothing compared to this herd of mamas and babies.
After Antelope Island, we stopped at Red Iguana 2 for dinner in Salt Lake City, where I ate my weight in chips and their incredibly delicious salsa, then squeezed in an entree of mole. It was sooo good!
