And the Adventure Officially Begins

NORTHERN VIRGINIA

Monday, March 8, 2021 - the adventures of this modern day vagabond officially began today!

My movers arrived at 9:00 am and had the truck completely loaded by 1:00 pm.

I got a text from my realtor at 12:15 pm that the paperwork was all signed.

My car was all packed with my two suitcases, my laptop, and a few odds and ends to give away.

I stopped next door before I left to say good-bye to my lovely neighbors, Ed & Margie. A couple days earlier they regaled me with some of their own adventures in southwest Arizona when they were stationed at Fort Huachuca and gave me insider tips of cool things to do while I was in Tucson. I already miss them. (Sheralyn and Derek, you know they're great because you officially set the bar for awesome neighbors.)

Now ... the adventure begins!

I drove tonight to Charlottesville, VA where I will spend the week with my parents and my sister's family, working from home during the day, and playing legos with nephews and pickleball with adults during the evenings.

On Saturday, I fly to Phoenix, AZ where I will buy a car and then head to Tucson. The plan for now is to spend 10-14 days there with my friend, Deb, and visiting my cousin, Jared & Katie.

After that ... not sure! Right now I'm thinking either Sedona or New Mexico.

On a personal note ...

When I got in my car and backed out of my garage for the last time, I consciously soaked up the moment. There was no bitter, only sweet. I drove away, thinking to myself: everything I own is in this car. I can go anywhere, do anything.

There truly is freedom in traveling light through life.

Then I remembered I still had a truckload of household goods, being driven away to storage at that very moment, lol! So I wasn't traveling quite as light as I could be. :)

I sort of wished at that moment I had just sold it all. But oh well. I reminded myself I will be glad to not have to furnish a house from scratch again when I return from my adventure.

And with that, I was on the road, heading out, my adventure officially begun.

Never miss a new post.
